The weather is changing. Birds start to sing… Spring is there! I felt like dressing in verly bright pastel colors to assimilate the mood of spring. The pleated plissé top is made out of 100% silk and from the designer Dorothee Schumacher. A very soft and light material! In addition I got the wonderful lilac colored espadrilles from Diane von Fürstenberg. Beyond that accessories like a real leather bag from Project Oona pared with a fluffy fur ball from Celtini give the outfit the perfect finish.

Just a few things about plissé pleats:

First the techniqual and historical part: Plissé pleats are narrow pleats which are set by gathering fabric with stitches, by wetting the fabric, and setting the pleats by allowing the wet fabric to dry under weight or tension. Linen chemises or smocks pleated with this technique have been found in the 10th century Viking graves in Birka. They are categorized as pressed. This means they are ironed or otherwise heat-set into a sharp crease. Unpressed pleats would fall in soft rounded folds.

Now let’s talk about styling: For example, when you buy a plissé pleated skirt, for example, make sure the fabric is not too delicate. Otherwise the fabric will expand on your body and accentuate your problem areas all the more. For sure you don’t want this to happen and ruin your figure! So instead, choose to wear a plissé pleated skirt which is made out of heavy materials to avoid the body enlargement. The skirt will keep its shape and the material will fall loosely and how it is supposed to fall. You can also go pleated skirts that start right on your hips and for very small pleats because they are non-fattening as well. See! There are a few styling tips and tricks you can consider about pleats and how they will affect your body appearance! Now you are perfectly brieved to buy a plissé skirt and ready to go shoppiiiiing! 🙂
